Who we are:

Our company was established in 1987 to provide the materials testing of concrete, asphalt, and soils for the construction industry.  Since then, we have grown to include a diverse scope of services that now includes specialty testing, materials engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, concrete restoration, and quality assurance certification throughout BC and Alberta. 

Who we are looking for:

Our company is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join our busy team in Burnaby. The ideal applicant will be self-motivated and goal-oriented and will have high standards of ethics.


Job duties:

  • Plan, conduct and report on field reviews and investigations of deficiencies in construction materials (mainly concrete)
  • Review plans, contracts, specifications, manufacturers’ data sheets, external test and certification reports, regarding materials properties and suitability for specific uses
  • Identify suitable materials for specific construction purposes
  • Plan, conduct and document quality control and quality assurance programs for repair and construction projects
  • Select and conduct suitable non-destructive tests for materials investigations
  • Perform destructive and non-destructive tests in the lab and in the field.  Tests will mainly be related to concrete, but may also cover sealants, coatings, wood, polymers and metals
  • Experience in petrography of concrete aggregates and concrete would be an asset
  • Peer review work of colleagues
  • After familiarization with Metro, manage consulting projects, typically ranging from several engineering hours, to hundreds of hours for several engineers and technicians and external specialists.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Professional Engineering licence in BC (or E.I.T. nearing P.Eng eligibility)
  • 3 + years or more of experience as engineer performing non-destructive and destructive tests on construction materials, investigating and evaluating structures
  • Practical knowledge of concrete mix designs
  • Abilities to understand, speak, read and write English
  • Ability to write investigative reports
  • Ability to structure complex projects and manage them
  • Ability to travel to out-of-town projects
  • Ability to perform physically demanding job in various weather conditions
