Position Summary

 

The Director of Recreation provides leadership, management and direction for all summer and winter Recreation at Horseshoe Resort. The Director of Recreation will manage all aspects of Horseshoe Resort’s recreation activities which include: alpine ski, cross country ski, snow school, mountain biking, guest services, golf and any additional recreation activities seasonally. This role is directly responsible to ensure the overall success of Horseshoe Resort in terms of: accountability for executing daily recreation and customer service operations, future and strategic planning, manager hiring and performance, staff development and training, financial results which include expense and labour management in accordance with budget requirements, and compliance with all health and safety regulations ensuring that safety is paramount across the operations for guests and staff.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall  Recreation Operations including the following departments: alpine ski, cross country ski, snow school, mountain biking, guest services, golf and any additional recreation activities seasonally
  • Oversee the management and administration of operations to produce an exceptional guest and employee experience
  • Develop the budgets, goals and objectives to improve the performance of each operation
  • Strategize, create and implement new recreation programs/events alongside VP to drive revenue and guest experience and measure their success
  • Oversee and accountable to the expense and labour management within the department
  • Communicate information to all Recreation managers and staff as needed to ensure the proper distribution of resort activity and general information
  • Increase operational efficiency and effectiveness through on-going intra and inter-departmental communication and cooperation
  • Evaluate performance of staff members and managers regularly, including department succession planning, employee relations and disciplinary action as needed
  • Responsible for overseeing and participating in the hiring and training for all Recreation employees to ensure a professional team is developed
  • Attend and actively participate in all senior team, leadership meetings and operational meetings
  • Maintain subject matter expert status of all recreation operations functions, industry trends and opportunities for the resort
  • Communicate with community members and research various sport and recreation programs
  • Ensure necessary operations and human resources paperwork and certifications are completed and maintained in accordance with legal and compliance regulations
  • Work collaboratively with other Resort leaders to ensure active communication and operational improvement and synergies throughout the Resort

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) + years as a senior leader in a ski resort or related hospitality operational role
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and mentor a large team to success
  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly and precisely in a variety of significant situations (such as training, explaining, giving directions, etc)
  • Requires the ability to communicate in writing on complex and technical situations
  • Requires the ability to interact with guests of the resort in a friendly and accommodating manner
  • Requires significant input in major decision making which may affect policies or procedures with the given area of responsibility
  • Requires the ability to negotiate service agreements with vendors in the best possible interest of the Resort
