We are looking for a Service Technician in Elgin, Illinois. This position will require administrative skills combined with a technical aptitude for diagnosing product use issues, warranty questions, returns, repairing products, machine operation and handling modified orders.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day administration in the service shop for in-house repairs and modified orders, warranty claim processing, general warranty administration, sales order and invoice processing for repairs (both warranty and charge out repairs), hard hat machine operation and shop prioritization (once fully trained and oriented).
  • Inspecting, repairing and testing Fall arrest devices by using various hand and power tools including a torque wrench. • Processing and logging of paperwork for torque wrench repairs and calibration. • Reading CAD drawings for assembly of engineered systems, controlled descent devices and ladder systems.
  • Inspecting RA claims on AFF and Peakworks product line and reporting if unit damage is covered under warranty.
  •  Conducting inspection of RGA AFF product and repackage as needed.
  • Responding to internal administrative matters and technical questions.
  • Communicating with the Branch, Parts and Service managers on workflow, and field/product issues on a regular basis with Parts, Service and Product Management team.
  • Overseeing of Service area (cleanliness / organization).
  • Controlling all receipts of goods and shipment of goods from and to the Service department.
  •  Coordinating any requirements to assist in product line testing and technical issues.
  • Assisting in the administration and documentation at the shipping bench regarding control of releases, return of goods authorization and inspection, miscellaneous pick-ups, etc.
  • Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
  •  Control and adjust machine settings (e.g., speed)
  •  Feed raw material or parts to semi-automated machines
  •  Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools
  •  Test operation of machines periodically
  •  Fix issues that might occur during the shift
  •  Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws
  •  Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
  •  Maintain activity logs
  •  Other duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a mechanical aptitude:

  • A strong understanding of our AFF & Peakworks product lines and how they work.
  •  Ability to repair, service, test and troubleshoot equipment.
  •  Ability to use various hand and power tools as required
  •  Ability to diagnose and solve problems
  •  Ability to work independently with little supervision
  •  Ability to multi-task while maintaining organization.
  •  Comfortable with reading CAD drawings for assembly of engineered systems, controlled descent devices and ladder systems
  •  Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  •  Excel & Word.
  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.)
  •  Understanding of production procedures
  •  Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g., constant use of protective gear)
  •  Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs and stand for long periods of time.
  •  Excellent customer service skills, attention to details and strong analytical skills
  •  Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and basic computer skills in Excel & Word.

  •  Physical stamina and strength
  •  Calm and professional demeanor.

This role reports to Construction Management & Tooling Manager.
