POSITION: REGISTERED NURSE

UNIT: MENTAL HEALTH - IN PATIENT

STATUS: PART TIME - A

SALARY: $34.24 - $49.02

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Mental Health Care program at STEGH includes a 15-bed unit for inpatients who require a short hospitalization stay, and an outpatient program with runs Monday through Friday. This state-of-the-art space offers single patient rooms with washrooms, common areas such as an outdoor courtyard, dining area and several lounge spaces. 

The RN is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgement, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. 

HOURS:

Must be available for all 11.25 and 7.5 hour tours applicable to the department/unit, and other tours as assigned by the hospital, 24 hour rotation, seven (7) days per week. In addition, the successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for at least four (4) tours per bi-weekly pay period, and either one (1) weekend in two (2) or three (3) weekends in six (6). 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Minimum of five (5) years current related experience working with mental illness and addictions (preferred)
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • Canadian Nursing Association Mental Health Nursing Certificate preferred
  • Certificate in Gentle Persuasion Approach, PIECES and Montessori (preferred)
  • Certification in Concurrent Disorders preferred
  • Current Safe Management Training Certification preferred
  • Working knowledge and skills in application of legislation including but not limited to the Mental Health Act, PHIPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced psycho-social and mental status assessment skills
  • Extensive knowledge and skills working with various types of mental health issues and addictions preferred
  • Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order
  • Knowledge of medication side effects preferred.
  • Demonstrated crisis assessment and intervention skills
  • Ability to assess, adapt and respond within a constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program required
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct
