Sawmill Lead Hand

Our division operates a hardwood sawmill in Palmer Rapids, ON. We are a diverse company with two divisions and many businesses. This is an outdoor lover’s paradise, and a wood lover’s dream. It is also a research facility and an education centre.

Our company is located on 100,000 acres, with 100 lakes, millions of trees, and is home to countless creatures. Above all, this is a sustainably managed forest. We provide year-round employment to 150 people, and work closely with 30 independent contractors. With a skilled management team and a tight operational focus, our business strategy is to be environmentally sustainable, socially responsible, and economically viable in everything that we do.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Operating sawmill equipment as required, including regular saw/station maintenance as required.
  • Cross trained on all functions within the sawmill to allow for back up
  • Training and working collaboratively with other employees
  • Keeping a clean and safe workspace
  • Performing all tasks in accordance with established safe work practices and standard operating procedures
  • Complete daily reporting
  • Quality Control for logs and lumber
  • Monthly inventory
  • Lumber grader back up
  • Assisting Sawmill Manager when required

 

The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with operating sawmill equipment, particularly circular resaws
  • Experience working with circular saws and hardwood lumber grades
  • Certification as a qualified hardwood lumber grader is an asset
  • Experience in a sawmill environment would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in a physical product type environment
  • Ability to embrace hands on solutions to complex challenges
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Competitive starting wage based on qualifications and experience

  • 4 x 10hr shifts, Monday - Thursday
